Have you ever stopped to question the why behind the why?

The reasons we do or don’t, must or mustn’t, should or shouldn’t, could or couldn’t?

So often we muddle along in life doing things – one thing after another – a series of things; little things, big things, a lifetime of things. Things in the past, things now and things in the future. What makes us “do”? Why are we compelled to do?

Online – some links you click on, others you don’t.
Offline – some things you do and other things you don’t.

So often we drift along feeling compelled to do yet very often we don’t stop and ponder why we are doing them. What drives us? Why are we triggered to act? We perceive a benefit, whether real or imagined. We seek answers and act because we feel our questions will be answered. We seek and are therefore compelled to do in order to satisfy the seeking. The benefit may not be for us; we might be sharing with or helping others, we might be compelled to do because we are interested, intrigued, motivated or inspired. We might be curious, looking to learn something new or explore something different. Sometimes we are lead by intuition other times we have a positive gut feeling.

A few possibilities for the why behind the why:

If it makes sense I feel compelled to do.
If it is in line with my values I feel compelled to do.
If it feels right I feel compelled to do.
If I have an inner must or mustn’t I feel compelled to do.
If I feel there is a real (or sometimes imagined) benefit I feel compelled to do.
If I feel a solution will arise I feel compelled to do.
If I feel I get value I feel compelled to do.
If I feel I can give value I feel compelled to do.
If I have an emotional reason I feel compelled to do.
If I have a thought (justify to myself or others) I feel compelled to do.
If I wish to have a discussion I feel compelled to do.
If I wish to share I feel compelled to do.
If I feel inspired I feel compelled to do.
If I feel motivated I feel compelled to do.
If I sense clarity will arise I feel compelled to do.
If I see 100% transparency and honesty I feel compelled to do.
If I see simplicity I feel compelled to do.
If I feel I wish to learn something I feel compelled to do.
If I am interested in something new I feel compelled to do.
If I am curious I feel compelled to do.
If I am intrigued I feel compelled to do.
If I am interested I feel compelled to do.
If I feel the outcome is likely to be interesting and relevant I feel compelled to do.
If I have a reason I feel compelled to do.

These are just a few occasions where we might feel compelled to do.

When you “do” next time, take a step back and contemplate why. Try a step further back and explore the why behind the why. Why am I compelled to do?

Why am I thinking this?
Why am I doing this?
Why am I saying this?

Why am I compelled to do?

The answers are interesting whether from the perspective of a buyer or seller, whether in business life or personal life.

Why am I compelled to do?

The why behind the why.
