In honour and celebration of the Olympic Games coming to England 2012, I created a Going for Gold mind map highlighting the extraordinary efforts of Olympic athletes. I also created an Olympic Potential mind map to explore some of the ways the Olympic theme might inspire alternative fields and birth new ideas. This Olympic animal’s mind map highlights some of the world leaders in the animal kingdom. There are many more to discover and explore. The sources of reference for the mind map were Dorling Kindersley and Reader’s Digest non-fiction books.
Here are the animal stars within the mind map:
Arctic Tern – The greatest migrator; it flies 19,000 km (12,000 miles) twice a year
Sailfish – Fastest fish; 100 km/h or 60 mph
Peregrine Falcon – Fastest bird in a dive; 362 km/h or 226 mph
Giraffe – Tallest animal; 5m or 17ft
Ruppells Griffon Vulture – Record highest altitude; 11,250m or 36,900ft
Five examples of exceptional animals on Planet Earth with hundreds of others to explore – what might your choice of Olympic animal be?
